Product Description
The TORK TPX Series Low-Voltage Safety Transformers (100W & 300W) provide reliable, code-compliant power for underwater pool, spa, and landscape lighting. Available in 100-watt (TPX100) or 300-watt (TPX300) capacities, these beige NEMA 3R rainproof units safely convert 120V power to low-voltage (12V–14V). Engineered for durability and safety, they feature a grounded metallic shield to meet strict NEC standards, ensuring a hazard-free environment for all aquatic and outdoor lighting projects.
Key Features
- Dual Power Options: 100W and 300W models available to match any lighting load or project scale.
- Multi-Tap Output: Includes 12V, 13V, and 14V taps to maintain consistent brightness over long wire runs.
- NEC Safety Compliant: Built with a grounded shield between windings for safe underwater luminaire operation.
- Auto-Reset Protection: Integrated circuit breaker automatically resets after clearing overloads or shorts.
- Weatherproof Enclosure: Powder-coated beige steel case resists rust and features 10 knockouts for easy wiring.
- Universal Compatibility: Ideal for LED pool lamps, incandescent bulbs, and low-voltage garden lights.
Specifications
Warnings and Disclaimers
- Underwater Safety: These transformers are specifically designed for underwater luminaires. A grounded metallic shield between the primary and secondary windings is required by NEC Article 680 to prevent high voltage from reaching the pool water.
- Load Calculation: Do not exceed the rated wattage (100W or 300W). Overloading the transformer will cause the auto-reset breaker to trip frequently and can lead to permanent coil failure.
- Wiring Protocol: Low-voltage and high-voltage wires must never occupy the same compartment or conduit unless they are specifically separated by an approved barrier.
- Installation Height: Mount the enclosure at least 1 foot above the ground/deck and 4 inches above the maximum water level to prevent moisture ingress.
- Voltage Drop Correction: If your furthest pool light looks dim or "yellowish," move the wire from the 12V tap to the 13V or 14V tap. This compensates for the natural resistance found in long copper wire runs.
- LED Compatibility: These transformers are ideal for modern LED color-changing lamps. Ensure your total LED wattage (usually 30W-60W per light) fits comfortably within the 100W or 300W overhead.
- Knockout Planning: With 10 available knockouts, plan your conduit entry from the bottom to ensure the rainproof integrity of the NEMA 3R case remains intact.
- Annual Inspection: Check the interior for signs of insect nesting or moisture every spring. Use the integrated circuit breaker to manually test the lights before the swimming season begins.
