Product Description

The R-0004 pH Indicator Solution is a professional-grade Phenol Red reagent used to measure the acidity or alkalinity of pool and spa water. Maintaining a balanced pH (ideally 7.4–7.6) is critical for swimmer comfort, equipment longevity, and ensuring your chlorine sanitizer works at maximum efficiency.

Key Product Features

  • High-Contrast Color Shift: Produces a distinct yellow-to-purple color spectrum that allows for easy visual matching against a standard comparator block.
  • Precision Dropper Tip: Engineered to deliver uniform drop sizes, ensuring repeatable and accurate readings across every test.
  • Balanced Formulation: Specially buffered to provide reliable results in a wide range of water temperatures and mineral concentrations.
  • Opaque Protective Packaging: Housed in light-shielding bottles to prevent UV degradation and extend the reagent's shelf life.

⚠️ Reagent Safety & Storage Warnings

CHEMICAL SAFETY: This is a chemical irritant. Avoid contact with eyes and skin; if contact occurs, flush with water for 15 minutes and seek medical attention if irritation persists.
STORAGE LIMITS: Store in a cool, dark place (36°F–85°F). Never leave your test kit in a hot car or in direct sunlight, as heat will degrade the reagent quality.
FRESHNESS CHECK: Phenol Red should be a clear, deep red/orange liquid. If it has turned dark brown or contains sediment, it has expired and must be replaced immediately.
💡 Professional Accuracy Tips
  • The Vertical Drop: Always hold the bottle perfectly vertical. Holding it at an angle creates smaller drops, which can result in a false-high pH reading.
  • Chlorine Interference: If chlorine is above 10 ppm, the indicator may turn dark purple (false-high). Add one drop of R-0007 (Chlorine Neutralizer) before testing pH.
  • Standard Protocol: Fill the large test vial to the 44 mL mark, add 5 drops of R-0004, cap, and swirl. Match against color standards immediately.
PROCEED WITH CAUTION: Accurate pH balancing is essential for pool chemistry. Consult with a water professional if you are unable to stabilize your pH levels despite consistent testing.
CALIFORNIA PROPOSITION 65 WARNING: This product may contain chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm. Wash hands after handling.
GENERAL DISCLAIMER: All technical data is for informational purposes. Taylor reagents are optimized for use with Taylor-style color comparators. R-0004 is specifically calibrated for the standard 5-drop dosage.
