Purple Primer 1qt
Pickup currently unavailable at Marathon, FL
Product Description
This aggressive, purple-tinted primer is formulated to quickly remove surface contaminants like dirt, grease, and grime while simultaneously softening the pipe material. This pre-softening process ensures the solvent cement can effectively fuse the pipe and fitting surfaces together, creating a permanent, leak-proof bond.
The purple color provides visible verification that the primer has been used, a requirement in many plumbing codes.

Safety Warnings & Certifications
- Permanent Staining: Purple primer is formulated to be a permanent dye for inspection verification. It will stain most materials and surfaces and is extremely difficult to remove.
- Highly Flammable: Keep away from heat, sparks, and open flames. Use only in well-ventilated areas to avoid vapor buildup.
- Health Hazards: Harmful or fatal if swallowed. May cause respiratory, skin, and serious eye irritation. Wear chemical-resistant gloves and goggles.
- Certifications: Meets ASTM F656 standards, NSF/ANSI 61 certified for potable water, and IAPMO listed (UPC seal).
Pro Tips
- Inspection Ready: Use purple primer specifically when local plumbing codes require visible verification that a primer was used before the cement application.
- Wet Application: Just like the clear version, the cement must be applied while the primer is still wet. If the primer dries, you must re-apply.
- Spill Prevention: Always place the can on a stable, protected surface. Use a "spill-proof" container holder if working over finished flooring or expensive pool decking.
- Temperature Range: Effective in temperatures from -10°F to 110°F (-23°C to 43°C). In extreme heat, work in small sections to prevent the primer from flashing off too quickly.
